Car Parking changes in Beckenham Place Park

There will be limited car parking in the park from Monday 18 March until July 2019. Please use public transport, walk or cycle as much as possible.

Mansion car park to close on 18 March

The car park in front of the mansion will close permanently on 18 March 2019.

It will soon become a carriageway drive once more. This is part of our work to restore the setting of the Georgian mansion for all to enjoy.

New car park

The new car park will open once the works in the park are complete later this year. It will have 108 spaces (36 more than the old one).

We had hoped that the new car park would open at the same time as closing the mansion car park. Unfortunately this has not been possible.

You can help us and other park users by:

Only parking in designated areas
Following the one-way system along the narrow stretch of the drive past the mansion.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

New Lake Is currently Closed

Beckenham Place Park Lake
The 285m-long Beckenham Place Park wild swimming lake, which reaches 3.5m deep in some parts, is due to reopen on 20 July — but it's not a completely new addition to the landscape. There was a lake on the site as far back as the 1700s, although it was filled in and used as a golf course — which was controversially closed to make way for the lake again.

This watery addition is part of a £4.9m upgrade to the park (funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund), which also includes more play areas, a BMX track, a skate park, a visitor hub and an education centre.

Head to the park on 20 July for the official launch party, with food stalls and bars, live music and DJs and  family-friendly activities. Beckenham Place hosts a vintage sale, and there's a chance to witness some traditional Georgian dancing — and of course, to do a few laps of the lake.

It's now been refilled with water, ready to welcome Lewisham's hardy swimmers. Once up and running, the lake will be open to the public Tuesday-Sunday until the end of September, offering swimming, and boat hire, with lifeguards overseeing proceedings. Advance booking is recommended for all activities.

Wild swimming at Beckenham Place Park, Beckenham Hill Road, BR3 1SY. Find out more and book your swim. The launch party takes place on Saturday 20 July, 12pm-7pm.

Because of the So Last Century Vintage Market and Forest Hill & District Classic Car Club the car park will be closed to all cars except blue badge holders. Please travel smartly

The coffee shop is based in the Mansion House
Situated at the mansion in Beckenham Place Park is a superb record store that is packed with crates and crates of vinyl in every genre you can think of.

It’s a great place to browse and there’s so much variety in the stock with quite a few foreign pressings and rarities, and records are usually playing in the store on one of the many record decks in there.

The owner, Owen, is such an enthusiast and holds occasional DJ-ing parties in the mansion, using only vinyl. Owen grades and researches valuations for accurate pricing, but he also has a 20% discount on all stock at the moment.

Def worth checking out if you’re visiting the park. It’s on the lower floor next to the cafe.
